storm warning

God Help Us. We’re Dead.

A civilization can survive almost anything, as long as its foundation remains unshaken. Take away its fundamental raison d’etre (reason for being), and it will die. Dissolve the glue that holds us together, and society falls apart.

That foundation, that reason for being, that glue… that made Western Civilization so successful …is gone. And, the final blow apparently came during the pandemic hysteria of the past three years.

Our Biblical world view has collapsed, and this means that our current civilization has finally died.

This might sound strange to some of you, so let me explain.

The Four Horsemen, Part Four – The Pale Horse

The Pale Horse is actually green. The original Greek for pale in Revelation 6:8 is chloros (χλωρος) and it literally just means green – as in chlorophyll green. So, it’s a green horse, not pale. But, everyone knows about the Pale Horse, so we’ll keep it pale in the title. But, whatever color you call it…

…it’s really, really bad.

The Game of Wolves

We don’t know all the reasons why Russia invaded Ukraine, but we can guess at some of them. Fear of NATO is certainly part of the picture, but only part. The largest element is greed.

Money and power drive our wars, and this one is no different. If it was just about stopping Ukraine from joining NATO, Russia would have used a different strategy. But, since Putin has bigger ambitions and perceives the West to be weak, he chose the more traditional path to empire.

Unfortunately, it looks like this is exactly what some in the West wanted him to do.

The Stories That Send Us To War

I was not expecting Russia to invade Ukraine like this, but I had not been listening to the stories that the Russians were telling each other. Nor did I hear what Kremlin advisors were telling Putin.

These stories are what send us to war. Every war that America has ever fought, started with a story, and too many of them had little connection with reality. Look closely at other wars, and you’ll see that they too started with a story.

Worse, we have taken up story telling in our churches, without checking whether they are true.

Afghanistan Part Two – The Coming War

The way the US handled the fall of Kabul to the Taliban demonstrated a shocking level of weakness, incompetence and cowardice that has sent shock waves through the halls of power throughout the world. America’s enemies now see an opportunity to tear at the carcass of a fallen empire. America’s allies no longer view the US as dependable.

This means war.

Over the coming months and years, America’s power will be challenged more and more as she demonstrates fearful weakness in the face of aggression. Then, one day, ‘aggression’ will turn into world war.

The Bible calls it Gog and Magog
