Bad Eschatology, Part 3 – The Pretribulation Rapture

My favorite pastors believe in a pretribulation rapture. I currently attend a church that holds to a pretrib eschatology. So, my disagreement with this view is no reflection upon anyone’s faithfulness to God. In fact, I normally like pretribbers more than post-tribbers.

However, as your brother in Christ, I am required to point out where you get things wrong, especially if such errors put you in harm’s way.

Just remember what I wrote last week about our tendency to blindness. We are all vulnerable to error, and it’s hard to undo the mistakes that we were taught.

Strong Delusion – Intro

Wickedness and stupidity are contagious. If you need evidence, just look around you. Read your local newspaper. Watch television. Go to the movies. You’ll see evidence for real evil and drooling idiocy, everywhere. But, there is something stronger coming, something that God will cause.

It’s called a Strong Delusion, and it’s a phrase that is used only once in the KJV. And, it specifically refers to the Last Days. And, I have some questions.

WHEN will this strong delusion come?

WHAT will it be?

HOW will it arrive?

…and…

DO we see it now?

I’m not sure that we can answer all these questions, but maybe we can shed some light on them.

Why Apocalypse Now

How we got to where we are is utterly fascinating. What an intricate series of events and historical movements that led us to this horrific moment in time.

For thousands of years, we’ve been puzzling over how the prophecies of the Last Days would be fulfilled. Well, we no longer need to puzzle over it. We now have most of the pieces and a better understanding of the picture.

The only question is whether we can fit those pieces together properly. It’s a big challenge, and I’ve been trying to do this for years. The good thing is that I’m better at this than before.

Stubbornness and Rebellion

Rebellion among Christians is on the rise. I wish that it wasn’t so, but the comments and emails that I’m receiving tell me that it is so. And, God has this to say about rebellion:

For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry…

 – 1 Samuel 15:23b

Far too many claim to be followers of God, while rebelling against Him. This is an abomination in the sight of God, the same as if you were a witch or a Satanist.

If you don’t understand that, then you are doomed.

Not by Sight

I stand amazed by how little truth and faith there is. God calls us to believe what He says in the Bible, and to ignore all who speak contrary to the Bible. Yet, we refuse. And yes, I put myself in that category, since I have been as guilty as anyone.

All of the prophecies in the Bible will be fulfilled, yet we tend to look around us and think that it can’t be possible. Everything looks so normal.

That’s because we are walking by sight, instead of by faith.
