Why This, Why Now

Well, since I’m sitting here in my hospital room, disconnected from the rest of the world, it has given me the opportunity to reflect more on WHY things are happening, not just WHAT is happening. Why things are happening is a common thread that winds its way through all of my posts, but it is rarely the raison d’etre of the post itself. So, let’s reflect a bit on the WHY of it all. Why is it that all this is happening now? Why is it that we are seeing a spike in earthquakes? Why do we see Russia coming … Click here to read the rest…

72 Hours

That’s the shortest amount of time it would take for help to arrive from outside your area. That’s the amount of time it would take for people to realize that help isn’t going to arrive. That’s the time you have to get to safety when everything falls apart. Another way of saying this is that we are all “nine meals from anarchy“. This is the Horrifying Future

I just saw this today, but I heard about it yesterday while I was in Tainan. The video footage that I’m about to show you is obscene. It is horrifying. The imagery will stay with you for a long time, if not forever. But, you need to see it, because it is the future. No. No, what I am saying that, as we continue to go through our own version of the ‘cultural revolution’, we will surely become just like the … Click here to read the rest…

The Soviet Union Rises Again

Just when you thought that they were gone, they’re back. And no, I don’t mean your in-laws. (By the way, I’ve only got two weeks before mine descend on Taipei.) As bad as your in-laws might be, the Soviet Union is worse. Lots worse. Oh, they’ll not call it the Soviet Union. They’ll call it Putin’s Russia, because it’s Putin who’s resurrecting this new version of the Soviet Union. I guess that we could call it Soviet Union 2.0, but let’s stick with Putin’s Russia. It sounds nicer that way. I just read this on Pajamas Media: Last Saturday, at … Click here to read the rest…

Memories of 9/11

I remember where I was when the planes hit the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. I remember the shock and the horror. I was sitting in front of my computer, at work in northern Jerusalem, banging out yet another manual, when the guy sitting next to me exclaimed, “a plane has hit the World Trade Center!” I was surprised but thought that it could only have been some idiots joyriding in a private aircraft – and had an accident. I went back to the book I was writing. When I heard Sam exclaim again, “and the building is … Click here to read the rest…
