I Ache for my Country – The Weekend Shock Letter for July 4th, 2020

July 4th is a bad time for me to find myself writing, because I think of the good things that once were and are no longer. And, most of you don’t want to read or listen to that. You really just want to celebrate, and I get that. So, I apologize for raining on any parade that you had planned. But, I just can’t help the ache that I feel, for what was lost.

There was good in us. There was bad, too, but we could still celebrate the good. It was certainly easier to find.

Not anymore.

A Big Hook in Gog and a Hoax Reminder

Russia did something this week, that I did not expect them to do. And, it represents a gigantic investment in both Syria and Iran. It might also be a battlefield test of the S-300V4 anti-aircraft system against America’s F-35 stealth fighter.

What the Russians gave Syria – and yes, it was a gift – is worth more than $4 billion. And, Russia doesn’t DO gifts like that, unless there’s a really big purpose behind it. And, that purpose is to shoot down Israeli jets and kill Israeli fighter pilots.

What Israel does in response, is uncertain.

Unfortunately, this story also brings a reminder that there are hoaxers out there, attempting to capitalize on this event, and events like it, by making up stories that just aren’t true.

Where is Magog?

Turkey is preparing for war and is gathering allies to do so. And, this growing alliance appears suspiciously close to that of the Gog and Magog alliance.

Is Turkey the Land of Magog?

It’s actually hard to say. And, I find that difficulty to be very interesting. It’s as if God were providing us with a test – a test of our willingness to love the Truth, instead of our own intellect. And, I am finding a LOT of ‘self love’ among the intellectuals making spurious claim after spurious claim about Magog.

So, let’s look at that for a bit.

Panama, Armenia and More Israel

War has flared in the Caucasus region, with Azerbaijan launching attacks against Armenia. The Panama Papers has set the political hens squawking. I have some more on Israel. And, the political Armageddon that is scheduled for November might not wait for election day.

My grandma used to call this a bunch of fuss and feathers. Unfortunately, my grandmother isn’t around to share her wisdom with us, so you’re stuck with me. Actually, it’s probably good that she isn’t here to see how awful and foolish her country has become.

It’s going to be a long, hot summer, and I really hope that you’ll be ready for this.

Remembering Our Lord in the Midst of Evil

As the darkness closes in around us, it is natural for our thoughts to turn towards the prospect of a grim future. And, in the short-term, it IS grim. But, as John The Apostle contemplated these things, he embraced these events, for they pointed to the return of our God and King, Jesus Christ.

I must keep reminding myself of this, as I look upon the evil that is happening around us, and within us.

I am grateful to all who have chosen to make a stand for Christ. For the Truth. For Righteousness. For an eternity with God. It is a struggle, and it will take everything you have. But, it is worth far more than anything that we can give.
